The Grove - I2C UV Sensor(VEML6070) is an advanced ultraviolet (UV) light sensor with an I2C protocol interface and active acknowledge (ACK) feature. It detects 320-410nm light most effectively and will convert solar UV light intensity to digital data. Based on VEML6070, it has linear sensitivity to solar UV light and can easily be adjusted by an external resistor.

What's more, the active acknowledge (ACK) feature with the threshold windows setting allows the UV sensor to send out a UVI alert message. Under a strong solar UVI condition, the smart ACK signal can be easily implemented by the software programming.

Ultraviolet (UV) is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength from 10 nm to 400 nm, shorter than that of visible light but longer than X-rays. Long-time exposure to UV radiation can be harmful to human bodies, like sunburns or eye damage, etc. Measuring the UV index can help people be aware of the current UV level and take protective measures.

With the Grove I2C UV light sensor, which is compatible with Arduino as well as Rasberry Pi, you can make your own Arduino UV meter, or add a UV measuring function to your Raspberry Pi weather station.
